Cártama
Two towns in one: a hill village with a castle, and a railway town with the hospital and the schools.
Cártama is 25 minutes from the beach and 18 from the airport, in the Guadalhorce valley among the orange and lemon groves. It's really two places. Cártama pueblo is the old town on the hill, with the castle and the hermitage above it. Estación de Cártama, three kilometres away on the flat, grew up around the railway and now holds the hospital, most of the schools, the health centre and the Cercanías station into Málaga. Around both are the smaller districts of El Sexmo, Doñana, Aljaima and Sierra de Gibralgalia.
It suits buyers who want their own house with ground, and possibly a pool, at prices the coast stopped offering years ago, and who are happy to be 25 minutes from the sea. It also suits anyone who wants the train: from Estación de Cártama the C-2 runs into Málaga Centro-Alameda. It's less suited to anyone who needs to be a walk from the beach, and the pueblo's steep streets are hard work for anyone with mobility in mind.

Property
What your money buys here.
The average asking price in Cártama was €2,388 per m² in August 2026, +12.4% on a year earlier (idealista price report). The examples below were opened and read on 17 September 2026. Stock moves weekly, so treat them as the shape of the market, not as houses to buy.
€175,000
A rustic estate five minutes from the pueblo: an 88 m² three-bed house the agent describes as fully legalised, its own pool, a roof terrace, and 2,664 m² of fenced ground with about 200 lemon trees.
Opened and read. "Fully legalised" is the agent's claim, to be proved from the registry. The agency's terms put its fee on the buyer, which changes the all-in cost.
€245,000
A three-bed, 138 m² house with its own pool on 2,500 m², opposite the Valle del Guadalhorce hospital in Estación.
Opened and read; own pool confirmed in the listing text.
€235,000 to €240,000
Four- and five-bed townhouses in the town, listed in that range.
Listed, not opened. A range, not a recommendation.
Add 10 to 13% on top of any price for taxes and fees. The cost calculator gives the real number for a given price.
What we'd tell you on the phone
The parts that aren't in the brochure.
Inland Málaga has a great many houses built or extended without permission, and pools put in without permission on houses that were already irregular. Regularising one (an AFO) costs €10,000 to €15,000 and takes a year to never, depending on the town hall. "Fully legalised" on a listing is a claim; the nota simple is the fact. If you're paying cash there's no bank checking this for you.
Some agencies in the valley charge the buyer a fee on top of the price. Read the agency's conditions before you fall for a house.
One of the cheapest "detached houses with pool" we opened in September 2026 was a mislabelled terraced VPO (subsidised, resale-restricted) with no pool. Portal labels lie; open the listing.
The pueblo is hilly and the streets are narrow. Estación is flat, has the services, and is where the train is.
