Town guide · inland Málaga
Alhaurín de la Torre
A big working town 22 minutes from the beach, with everything in it.
Alhaurín de la Torre sits between the Sierra de Mijas and the Guadalhorce valley, 15 minutes from the airport and 22 from the beach at Torremolinos. It's a town of about 45,000 people, most of whom work in Málaga, and it has grown fast since the 1990s. That growth is the point: it has the shops, schools, health centre and sports facilities of a real town, not a resort.
It suits buyers who want a house and a bit of ground close to the coast without paying coast prices, who don't want a tourist strip, and who are happy to drive 20 minutes for the sea. It's less suited to anyone who wants to walk to a beach or who wants the old-Andalusia feel; for that, look a few minutes further inland at Cártama.

What we'd tell you on the phone
The parts that aren't in the brochure.
Two of the cheapest "detached" listings we opened in September 2026 were traps: one was bare ownership with a life tenant still living in it, the other was listed as illegally occupied. Cheap headline prices in this town need opening, not believing.
It's a commuter town. The centre has an old Moorish street plan and is pleasant, but most of the housing is 1990s and later, and the feel is suburban rather than village.
The provincial prison is on the edge of the municipality. It doesn't affect daily life, but it surprises people who find it on a map after they've bought.
There is no train. The bus is good and the airport is a quarter of an hour away, but if you want to live without a car, choose Estación de Cártama or the coast.
